Rod Arroyo is the tour operator of Detroit Legacy Tours. He is a former urban planning consultant and former co-owner of Giffels Webster, a multidisciplinary consulting firm in the heart of downtown Detroit. Rod has a Master of City Planning degree from Georgia Tech. He was elected to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Certified Planners, and he has spent decades shaping the built environment and studying the communities within it. Rod loves to research urban places, and he loves Detroit!

What types of tours do you offer?

We offer a variety of walking tours that explore Detroit’s rich history, including its musical and cultural heritage, urban planning history, and other significant events.

How long do the tours last?

Our tours typically last around two hours and fifteen minutes, allowing ample time to explore key sites and share engaging stories about Detroit’s past and present.

Can I take photos during the tour?

Yes, photography for personal use is permitted. No video or sound recording is permitted.

Is tipping required?

Tipping is not required, but is certainly appreciated for exceptional service.

Are tours suitable for all ages?

The tour is designed for adults. Young people are welcome when accompanied by an adult or guardian. Note that topics of enslavement, civil unrest, and war are part of Detroit’s history. We will be walking approximately 1.5 miles on the tour.

Do you operate in all types of weather?

We operate rain or shine. Please be prepared for changing Michigan weather. Tours will be canceled or halted temporarily due to severe weather such as thunderstorms, ice, and heavy snow. If canceled or not completed, refunds will be offered or you may reschedule.
